What to do when an update failed

When an update fails to install the affected system displays a warning badge like this:

You can click on the badge or open the detail view for the affected system to see which packages failed to correctly install. You will also see an error message in the detail view of the system showing the cause of the failure.

Packages that are known to cause failed updates are:

  • Apple drivers on Windows
  • Some Microsoft apps that have a self-updating mechanism, e.g. Microsoft Edge or Microsoft Teams. These applications will normally update themselves when they are closed and restarted by the user. Trying to apply a manual update for these applications often fails because a user is currently using them.
